Sound System Installation
Wiring and installation for in-wall, in-ceiling, outdoor and multi-room sound systems, done right the first time.

Overview
A great sound system starts behind the wall, not with the speakers themselves. We install and wire in-wall and in-ceiling speakers, outdoor and patio audio, and multi-room/whole-home audio systems, running properly rated low-voltage speaker cable, installing dedicated circuits for amplifiers and receivers, and setting up in-wall volume controls and multi-zone switching so every room actually sounds the way it’s supposed to. Electrovoltage installs sound systems for homeowners, renovation projects, restaurants, retail spaces, and offices across Toronto and the GTA, whether it’s a single media room or a fully zoned whole-home system.

Why It Matters
Most sound system problems that get blamed on the speakers or receiver are actually wiring problems: an audible hum or buzz from an amplifier sharing a circuit with dimmers or other electronics, in-wall cable that isn’t CL2/CL3 fire-rated and technically isn’t code-compliant to run inside a wall cavity, or speaker runs pieced together with too many gauge changes and connectors that quietly kill sound quality over distance. Getting it right means treating the low-voltage speaker and control wiring, and the line-voltage power for amplifiers and powered subwoofers, as two separate jobs with different rules, then running both cleanly through finished walls and ceilings without unnecessary drywall damage. It’s also where a lot of DIY and low-voltage-only installers stop short: a receiver or multi-zone amplifier drawing sustained current deserves its own dedicated circuit, not a shared outlet behind the media cabinet, especially once a system extends to multiple rooms or an outdoor zone.
How Sound System Installation Works
- 1
Design consultation & layout
We walk the space with you, plan speaker placement and zones for each room (or patio and outdoor areas), and map how the system ties into your existing or planned equipment.
- 2
Wiring & circuit planning
We plan the speaker cable routing, keep low-voltage audio lines separated from line-voltage wiring to avoid hum and interference, and confirm whether a dedicated circuit is needed for amplifiers or receivers.
- 3
Installation
We run in-wall/in-ceiling rated speaker cable through existing cavities with minimal drywall disruption, mount and wire the speakers, and install in-wall volume controls or keypads.
- 4
Testing, zoning & walkthrough
We test every speaker and zone, set up multi-room switching or app-based control where applicable, and walk you through operating the finished system.
What Affects the Cost
Pricing is driven mainly by the number of rooms or zones, whether speakers are in-wall, in-ceiling, or outdoor-rated, whether you have attic or ceiling access or we’re routing through a fully finished space, and whether the job needs a dedicated circuit for amplifier or receiver equipment.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Why does my sound system hum or buzz?
- A hum or buzz is almost always a wiring issue, usually an amplifier sharing a circuit with dimmers or other electronics, or a ground loop between components. We isolate the cause and wire amplifiers on a dedicated circuit where needed to eliminate it.
- Can you install speaker wiring in a finished ceiling or wall without major repairs?
- In most cases yes, we route speaker cable through existing wall and ceiling cavities and keep drywall patching to a minimum, and we’ll tell you upfront if a section genuinely needs to be opened.
- Do amplifiers and receivers need a dedicated circuit?
- For multi-zone or higher-powered systems, yes. A dedicated circuit avoids the voltage drop and interference that comes from sharing a circuit with other household or building loads.
- Do you install outdoor and patio sound systems?
- Yes, we install weatherproof outdoor-rated speakers and wiring for patios, decks, and backyards, and can zone outdoor audio separately from your indoor system.
- Can you set up multi-room or whole-home audio?
- Yes, we wire and configure multi-zone systems so different rooms can play different sources independently, with in-wall keypads or app-based control depending on your setup.
- How much does sound system installation cost?
- Cost depends on the number of rooms or zones, whether speakers are in-wall, in-ceiling, or outdoor, and whether a dedicated circuit is needed for your equipment. We provide a clear quote after seeing the space.
