If you're planning a sound system for a media room, a whole-home audio setup, or outdoor speakers on the patio, most of what determines how it sounds and how reliable it is happens before a single speaker gets mounted.
The Wiring Matters More Than the Speakers
A hum or buzz coming from your amplifier is rarely a bad component, it's almost always a wiring issue: an amplifier sharing a circuit with dimmers or other electronics, or a ground loop between components. Properly planned wiring keeps low-voltage speaker cable separated from line-voltage power, which is what actually prevents interference in the first place.
In-Wall Cable Has to Be Rated for It
Not all speaker wire is legal to run inside a wall or ceiling cavity. Cable routed through those spaces needs to be CL2 or CL3 fire-rated, and skipping that isn't just a code technicality, it's a real fire-safety gap that a lot of DIY installs and low-voltage-only installers overlook entirely.
Amplifiers Often Need Their Own Circuit
A receiver or multi-zone amplifier drawing sustained current on a shared outlet behind the media cabinet is a common source of voltage drop and interference, especially once a system grows to cover multiple rooms or an outdoor zone. A dedicated circuit sized for the equipment solves this before it becomes a problem.
Finished Walls Don't Have to Mean Major Repairs
Most in-wall and in-ceiling speaker installations route cable through existing wall and ceiling cavities, keeping drywall disruption to a minimum. We'll always tell you upfront if a section genuinely needs to be opened rather than defaulting to it.
