From downtown condos to century homes in the older east and west end neighbourhoods, Toronto properties bring a wide range of electrical challenges: aging knob-and-tube wiring, undersized panels, and condo board requirements for EV charger installations. Our licensed electricians work across the city, providing code-compliant electrical service for homeowners, landlords, and businesses alike.
In older pockets like The Annex, Riverdale, and High Park, the most common calls we get are knob-and-tube and aluminum wiring assessments, panel upgrades ahead of a renovation, and insurance-driven electrical inspections during a home sale or refinance. In denser areas like Yorkville and downtown condo corridors, the work skews toward in-suite troubleshooting, lighting upgrades, and condo board–approved EV charger installations in shared parking garages. In The Beaches and Leslieville, potlight and backyard lighting installs are common alongside general panel and outlet work in century homes.
We regularly work in:The Annex,Leslieville,The Beaches,High Park,Riverdale,Yorkville, and the rest of Toronto.
More about our work in Toronto
Overview
We provide smart video doorbell installation for homes and businesses throughout Toronto, including The Annex, Leslieville, The Beaches, High Park, and the rest of Toronto.
Most video doorbell problems, a doorbell that won’t stay powered, a chime that no longer works, or a “low power” warning in the app, come down to what’s behind the wall plate, not the doorbell itself. We install and wire smart video doorbells, including Ring and Nest, on both existing wiring and homes with no doorbell wiring at all: swapping out an undersized transformer, running new low-voltage wiring where none exists, and integrating with mechanical or digital chimes so the doorbell actually works the way it’s supposed to, not just for the first week.
- Transformer sizing for Ring, Nest & other video doorbells
- New low-voltage wiring where none exists
- Chime integration & testing included
Why It Matters
A video doorbell in hardwired mode needs a real, continuous power supply, usually a 16-24VAC transformer rated for at least 30VA, and a lot of homes, especially older ones, still have a doorbell transformer sized for a simple mechanical chime that can’t reliably keep a video doorbell powered. That mismatch is what causes the most common complaints: a doorbell that drops offline, a “insufficient power” notification, or a chime that stops working once the video doorbell is added to the circuit. It’s also common for a doorbell relocation, to a new entryway, a gate, or a location with better sightlines, to require running new low-voltage wiring where none exists, which isn’t something most homeowners or handyman installers are set up to do properly, especially where the run needs to pass through a finished wall or exterior siding.
How Smart Video Doorbell Installation Works
- 1
Existing wiring & transformer check
We test your current doorbell wiring and transformer output to see if it can support a video doorbell, or if it needs replacing.
- 2
Transformer & power planning
We size and install the correct transformer, or plan an alternate power source, based on your specific doorbell model’s requirements.
- 3
Wiring installation
We run new low-voltage wiring where none exists, or repair and reroute existing wiring, keeping the work clean at both the doorbell and chime end.
- 4
Chime integration & testing
We connect and test the doorbell against your existing mechanical or digital chime, or install a plug-in chime if needed, and confirm stable power before we leave.
What Affects the Cost
Cost depends on whether your existing wiring and transformer can be reused or need replacing, whether new wiring needs to be run and how accessible that route is, and whether the job includes relocating the doorbell to a new position on the exterior.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Why does my Ring doorbell keep losing power or going offline?
- This is almost always a transformer issue: your existing doorbell transformer is likely undersized for a video doorbell’s continuous power draw. We test your transformer’s output and replace it with one sized correctly for your doorbell model.
- Can you install a video doorbell if my home has no existing doorbell wiring?
- Yes, we run new low-voltage wiring and install the correct transformer for homes with no existing doorbell circuit, in addition to working with existing wiring.
- Will my existing chime still work with a new video doorbell?
- In most cases yes, we test and integrate your video doorbell with your existing mechanical or digital chime, and install a compatible plug-in chime if your setup needs one.
- Can you relocate my doorbell to a different spot on my house?
- Yes, we run new wiring to relocate a doorbell for better sightlines or coverage, including routing through finished walls or exterior siding where needed.
- Do you install both Ring and Nest doorbells?
- Yes, we install and wire Ring, Nest, and most other hardwired video doorbell brands, sizing the power supply to each manufacturer’s specific requirements.
- How much does video doorbell installation cost?
- Cost depends on whether your existing wiring and transformer can be reused, whether new wiring needs to be run, and whether the doorbell is being relocated. We provide a clear quote after assessing your home.
