Call (416) 828-69765 Signs Your Warehouse Needs a High Bay LED Retrofit

If your warehouse, shop, or production floor is still running on metal halide or fluorescent high bays, chances are you've gotten used to a few quirks that shouldn't be normal. Here's how to tell it's time for a high bay LED retrofit instead of another replacement lamp.
1. Fixtures Take Minutes to Warm Back Up
Metal halide fixtures need a restrike period, often several minutes, before they return to full brightness after a power interruption or being switched off. LED high bays are at full output instantly, which matters more than it sounds like on a floor where forklifts and machinery are moving the moment the power comes back.
2. Light Output Has Visibly Dropped
Metal halide and fluorescent fixtures lose a meaningful share of their output as they age, often before anyone thinks to replace them, because the drop-off is gradual rather than a sudden failure. If fixtures look dimmer or more yellow than they used to, that's lumen depreciation, not your imagination.
3. You're Replacing Ballasts or Lamps Constantly
Ballast failures and lamp replacements on older high bay fixtures add up in maintenance calls and lift rentals, especially at 20-30+ feet where every fixture is a bigger job than swapping a bulb at ground level. LED fixtures cut that maintenance cycle dramatically.
4. Your Lighting Power Bill Feels Disproportionate
A facility running dozens of 400W metal halide fixtures on for a full shift schedule is paying for it every month. LED high bay fixtures typically use 40-60% less energy for the same light output, and it shows up directly on the bill, not just in theory.
5. There Are Dark Aisles Between Bright Fixtures
Uneven coverage usually isn't a fixture problem, it's a spacing and layout problem. High bay fixtures mounted well overhead need to be planned around ceiling height, crane rails, and racking, and a proper retrofit is the chance to fix the layout, not just swap what's already there for an LED equivalent in the same spot.
