Call (416) 828-69765 Signs Your Electrical Panel Needs an Upgrade

Your electrical panel is the heart of your home's power system, and if it's outdated, overloaded, or simply worn out, it can become a real safety hazard. Here are five signs it might be time for a panel upgrade.
1. Frequent Breaker Trips
If breakers trip regularly, even during normal use, your panel may not have the capacity to handle your home's electrical load safely.
2. Flickering or Dimming Lights
Lights that flicker or dim when you run appliances often point to an overloaded or failing panel.
3. A Federal Pacific or Zinsco Panel
These older panel brands are known for breaker failures and are widely considered a fire risk by electricians and insurers alike. If you have one, it should be replaced.
4. Burning Smell or Warm Panel Cover
Any burning smell near your panel, or a panel cover that's warm to the touch, is a sign to call an electrician immediately.
5. You're Adding Major Appliances or an EV Charger
Panel capacity that was fine for a 1980s home may not be enough for today's EV chargers, heat pumps, and smart-home devices.
