Call (416) 219-1347Serving Burlington
Burlington runs from the Lake Ontario shoreline up to the Niagara Escarpment, which means our electricians see a genuinely wide range of housing: lakeside estate homes in Roseland and Shoreacres, post-war bungalows in Aldershot near the Hamilton border, and fast-growing subdivisions in Alton Village and The Orchard that are still being built out in the city’s north end. We provide panel upgrades, EV charger installations, and lighting work sized to whichever end of that range a property falls on, along with commercial electrical service for businesses along the Harvester Road and QEW corridor.
In Aldershot and around the GO station, older post-war bungalows sit alongside a growing number of mid-rise condo developments, so we see both traditional panel upgrades and in-suite electrical work coordinated with property managers. Lakeside homes in Roseland and Shoreacres, many built from the 1950s through the 1970s on larger lots, often call us for panel upgrades and backyard lighting design as part of a renovation, and pool or boathouse wiring comes up more often here than elsewhere in Burlington. In Millcroft’s golf course community and the newer streets of The Orchard and Alton Village further north, most calls are EV charger installations and smart lighting rather than panel replacements, since the housing stock is newer. Escarpment-adjacent lots near the north end sometimes mean rock or shallow soil conditions that affect how we run exterior circuits for generators or landscape lighting.
We regularly work in:Aldershot,Roseland,Shoreacres,Millcroft,The Orchard,Alton Village, and the rest of Burlington.
Hot Tub Electrical Installation in Burlington: What to Expect
Lakeside homes in Roseland and Shoreacres, many built from the 1950s through the 1970s on larger lots, are where hot tub installation comes up most in Burlington — pool and boathouse wiring already show up more often here than elsewhere in the city, and hot tub bonding work follows the same pattern, with attention to corrosion-resistant hardware given the lake proximity. Millcroft, The Orchard, and Alton Village further north have newer housing stock on standard subdivision lots, so those installs are usually a straightforward circuit, disconnect, and bonding job without any panel concerns. Aldershot’s post-war bungalows have smaller, more modest lots, and escarpment-adjacent ground near the north end sometimes means rock or shallow soil that changes how we trench the conduit run for an exterior circuit.
More about our work in Burlington
Overview
We provide hot tub electrical installation for homes and businesses throughout Burlington, including Aldershot, Roseland, Shoreacres, Millcroft, and the rest of Burlington.
A hot tub is one of the least forgiving electrical installations in a backyard: it’s a high-current 240V load sitting in and around water, and Ontario Electrical Code is specific about exactly how it has to be wired. We install the dedicated GFCI-protected circuit, the code-required disconnect, and the equipotential bonding grid that ties together the tub’s metal components, pump, and surrounding conductive surfaces, for both new hot tub and swim spa installations and replacements of an existing unit’s wiring. Every job is permitted and inspected by the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) for homes across Toronto and the GTA.
- Dedicated GFCI-protected circuits
- Code-compliant disconnect placement
- Full equipotential bonding grid
Why It Matters
Most hot tubs draw enough current that they need their own 40–60A double-pole circuit, and that circuit has to run through a Class A GFCI breaker, ground-fault protection is not optional around a tub full of water and bathers. Code also requires a disconnect switch that’s within sight of the tub but set back at least 1.5 metres from the water’s edge, so it’s reachable in an emergency without anyone standing next to the tub to use it. The part that’s easy to miss without an electrician is bonding: the pump, heater, any metal ladder or rail, and the conductive surfaces within 1.5 metres of the tub all need to be tied into an equipotential bonding grid, which is what keeps stray voltage from creating a shock hazard in and around the water. Skipping or improperly wiring any one of these three pieces, the circuit, the disconnect, or the bonding, is what causes a hot tub installation to fail inspection or, worse, become a real safety hazard.
How Hot Tub Electrical Installation Works
- 1
Site & load assessment
We review the tub’s electrical specifications and your panel’s capacity, and confirm the planned location works for the required disconnect clearance and wiring route.
- 2
Circuit & disconnect installation
We run the dedicated GFCI-protected circuit from your panel and install the disconnect switch at the code-required distance from the tub.
- 3
Equipotential bonding
We bond the tub’s pump, metal components, and surrounding conductive surfaces into a proper bonding grid, exactly as Ontario Electrical Code requires.
- 4
ESA inspection & documentation
We pull the permit, schedule the ESA inspection, and hand you the certificate of inspection once the installation passes.
What Affects the Cost
Roseland and Shoreacres jobs sometimes carry a premium for corrosion-resistant bonding hardware given the lakefront exposure, while escarpment-adjacent lots near the north end can add cost when rock or shallow soil makes conduit trenching more work than a standard dig, and Millcroft or Orchard installs are typically priced as a standard job.
Cost depends on the tub’s amperage and circuit size, the distance and routing between your panel and the installation site, whether your panel has spare capacity or needs an upgrade first, and how much bonding work the surrounding deck, patio, or landscaping requires.
Frequently Asked Questions
- We’re on a lakeside lot in Shoreacres — does that change hot tub installation?
- It affects the hardware more than the layout — bonding and disconnect components near the lake hold up better with corrosion-resistant fittings, which we factor into jobs in Roseland and Shoreacres.
- Our property is near the escarpment in north Burlington — does rocky ground affect installation?
- It can. Rock or shallow soil near the escarpment sometimes changes how we trench the conduit run to the tub, which is something we assess on site before quoting.
- Does a hot tub need a dedicated electrical circuit?
- Yes. Hot tubs require their own dedicated circuit, typically 40-60A on a double-pole breaker, protected by a Class A GFCI breaker, separate from any other household circuit.
- How far does the disconnect switch need to be from the hot tub?
- Ontario Electrical Code requires the disconnect to be within sight of the tub but at least 1.5 metres back from the water’s edge, so it’s safely reachable without standing next to the tub.
- What is bonding and why does a hot tub need it?
- Bonding electrically ties together the tub’s pump, metal components, and nearby conductive surfaces like a metal ladder or deck framing, so there’s no voltage difference between them that could create a shock hazard in or around the water.
- Can I plug a hot tub into a regular outdoor outlet?
- No. Most hot tubs draw far more current than a standard outlet or extension cord is rated for, and code requires a dedicated hardwired circuit with GFCI protection, not a plug-in connection.
- Is a permit required for hot tub electrical installation?
- Yes, hot tub circuits require an ESA permit and inspection, which we pull and schedule as part of the job.
- How much does hot tub electrical installation cost?
- Cost depends on the tub’s amperage, the distance from your panel to the installation site, and how much bonding work is involved. We provide a clear quote after assessing your property.
